Language Tutoring

I offer remote, 1:1 Japanese language tutoring for students of all levels. I have over five years’ experience teaching Japanese language at the college level, and am also a heritage speaker of Japanese. I am particularly interested in working with Japanese heritage speakers, students of color, disabled students, and others for whom formal language learning has traditionally been inaccessible. Please get in touch to discuss my rates.

Editing and Proofreading

I offer bilingual editing and proofreading services for any text translated from Japanese.

I am also available for hire as a sensitivity reader. I will read and offer consultation on any English-language manuscript about or related to Japan, Japanese, or Japanese-American culture, paying particular attention to questions of accuracy, as well as racial and cultural sensitivity. Please get in touch to discuss my rates.

Research

I am available for hire as a research assistant on any type of project for which reading, interpreting and translating Japanese language sources is a necessary component. Some of the literary, academic, and trade books I have worked on include Mark Vanhoenacker’s Imagine a City: A Pilot’s Journey Across the Urban World and Jami Nakamura Lin’s The Night Parade: A Speculative Memoir.

I am also available for hire as a fixer for journalists who require a translator, guide, and/or someone to help arrange local interviews in Japan. Please get in touch to discuss my rates.

Lectures and Workshops

I am available to give lectures or organize workshops on literary translation. I have led a number of general and language-specific translation workshops through Catapult, as well as at colleges and universities through invitation. Please get in touch to discuss my rates.
